Brown Trout on Blue

A recent piece of work I did for the blog. You might of noticed a smaller similar piece of work at the bottom of the page. This is a halftone image with blue water color paint of a beautiful brown trout I caught from my favorite river!

Frost on the river

Porvoo river.  Lahti, Finland

This is a photo of the  local Porvoo River running through the city of Lahti. The river is not the best fishing river in the area. It runs through the city including the wast treatment area but the city has begun a restocking program with rainbow trout and are in the process of cleaning up the river. They have taken out the weirs and created natural rapid habitats for the trout to live in. The river contents many species of fish so one is not sure what you will catch. I have caught rainbow trout and brown trout. Pike is also very common in this river. I think this spring I will try out this river a little more and see what it has to offer.

Where I do the tying

Keeping things out of the way and tidy! (My tying desk)

I thought I would post for you to see how I have my tying bench set up in my house. My set up is such as I can keep everything out of sight (which pleases the wife. She is not a clutter person.) and this also keeps the kids from getting into the hooks and feathers.
All I need to do when I want to start tying is open up the doors and pull down the table. This takes only a few seconds and is just as fast putting it away. With this cabinet I can keep everything I need for tying from tools, feathers, fur, hooks and my fly tying reference books. It even holds my wireless lane router modem and my server for my computer back ups.
With the nice look and size it fits easily into any room in your house.
Let me see what you guys have for your tying bench. Send me a post of your desk!

Getting ready for the spring!

"Fly Fishing is a little difficult this time of year."
Temps starting at -10 dropping down to a chilling -20 celsius at times.

Welcome to FIN CAN FLY!
This blog will focus on my experience with fly fishing in Finland. With me being a fly fisherman from Canada I will give you my views on how things are done with the Finnish culture in fly fishing. This blog will be a little slow until the spring when the snow begins to melt and the fish come out to play. As Finland is mostly covered with the white stuff until April. Until the action starts I will post some photography from the past year as well as my paintings and illustrations.
Now it is time to go and do some fly tying!
